Its domain-joined local disk and tape storage can also be wiped or encrypted. Used in combination with an immutable write bucket on AWS, it's possible to do double-air gapping with Backup Exec.īy comparison, a domain-joined Veeam backup and replication server appears to be completely vulnerable to being wiped or corrupted by malware. If the domain were to be taken over by malware, the Backup Exec server and its onsite disk and tape storage can not be attacked.

It is entirely separate and standalone with its own administrator password, and it uses the remote agents to back up the domain servers.
#Backup exec 16 active queued windows
Our Backup Exec server is not a member of the Windows domain that it is backing up. One item that I am noticing that seems to be a problem while reviewing Veeam's capabilities is that there appears to be no way to directly air-gap Backup and Replication from a Windows active directory domain. Yeah so everyone waves around Veeam but it seems Backup Exec has caught up and has virtual machine backups now too, so it doesn't seem like Veeam is all that special anymore. I am currently a Backup Exec file-based backup user, looking into virtual machine backups.
